The Spectra/Chrom® Model 280 UV Detector continues Spectrum's line of inexpensive, high-performance chromatographic instruments. If you need to do routine UV detection and quantitation, look no further than the Model 280. For $3847.00 (list price US distribution) you get a detector for use at both 254 and 280 nm with a digital display, a 5 mm pathlength dual flow cell, and a cable for conneting the detctor to a recorder. We know of no other detector that provides all of these features at this price.

Because it includes both 254 and 280 filters as well as a flow cell and a recorder cable, it is ready to use right out of the box. Simply plug it in, connect the outlet of your column to the flow cell, hook up your chart recorder and you're ready to go. The short warm-up time of 10 minutes (typical) makes it exceptionally convenient.

The Model 280 UV Detector uses a special long-life low-pressure mercury lamp. The lamp lifetime is about 6,000 hours. The short warm-up time lets you turn the lamp off every night or whenever else it is not in use. This combination assures that you will be many years of excellent use from the detector before any maintenance is needed.

For the more adventuresome, several options are available for the Model 280 UV monitor, none of which are required. The options include both a 2 mm and a 10 mm pathlength cell. (A 5 mm pathlength flow cell is included with the detector.)

An excitingly different description of the Spectra/Chrom® Model 280 UV Detector is available at http://www.lplc.com/instruments/uv.html.

Use part number 142600 for a 115V version of the uv monitor and 142602 for a 230V version.

Optional Accessories for the Model 280 UV Detector

Part No. Description
142642 Replacement 5 mm pathlength flow cell. This flow cell is included with the detector. It includes both the measuring and the reference light paths.
142640 10 mm pathlength flow cell. This flow cell includes both the reference and the measuring light paths. The 10 mm pathlength provides twice the sensitity of the standard 5 mm pathlength, but high concentrations of absorbing species may exceed the detector's linear range.
142644 2 mm pathlength flow cell. This flow cell includes both the reference and the measuring light paths. The 2 mm pathlength provides less than half the sensitivity of the standard 5 mm pathlength, but high concentrations of absorbing species are less likely to exceed the linear range of the detector.
142620 Replacement fittings for the model 280 UV detector. It includes a set of flow cell windows and fittings for 1/8 and 1/16 inch OD tubing as well as 1/16 inch ID tubing. One of these kits (including replacement windows) is included with the detector.
142650 Replacement lamp assembly. This is a replacement mercury lamp assembly for the detector. It includes the necessary phosphor for operation at 280 nm.
142608 Replacement filter slide. This is a replacement filter slide for use with the UV detector. It includes both the 280 and 254 nm filters. It is only needed if you should loose or damage the filter slide included with the detector.
142615 Cable to connect to the CF-1 Fraction Collector. This connects the UV detector to the CF-1 Fraction Collector so that a tick mark will be placed on the chromatogram with every tube change and the peak separator in the fraction collector can be used to detect peaks.
