The Spectra/Chrom® CF-2 Fraction Collector is the ultimate laboratory appliance for preparative chromatography. It can collect up to 174 fractions and occupies only 1-1/4 square foot of bench space. It's $2460.00 price (list price US distribution, $2660.00 in Europe) makes it a necessity in any lab.

The Spectra/Chrom® CF-2 Fraction Collector is sold complete with the rack set for 12 to 13 mm tubes, a drop counter/former, and fittings for 1/16" ID tubing (hplc) as well as for 1/8" OD and 1/16" ID tubing (preparative low-pressure chromatography). It does not include the test tubes which can be purchased from almost any laboratory supplier.

A veritable cornucopia of options are available for the Spectra/Chrom® CF-2 Fraction Collector. The options include rack sets for other tube sizes (ranging from 10 to 28 mm diameter), automatic valves, and cables for interfacing with other instruments.

The Spectra/Chrom® CF-2 Fraction Collector can be easily used to collect uniform fraction based on the number of drops or the time to fill each tube. It includes everything needed for these operations.

Using the membrane keypad to program the Spectra/Chrom® CF-2 Fraction Collector allows you to take advantage of its peak separator. This allows you to collect only the peaks of interest from your chromatogram and to automatically reject the balance. This conserves test tubes. The rejected balance can be collected in a waste container, or it can be recycled; the CF-2 includes all of the features found on many of the hplc solvent recyclers being marketed.

Features of the CF-2 Fraction Collector



A similar device called an Interval Sampler is also available. The interval sampler is most useful when you are not continuously collecting fractions but instead are periodically taking samples from a liquid stream or container.

Optional Accessories for the CF-2 Fraction Collector

124853 Replacement rack set that holds up to 174 12 or 13 mm diameter tubes. The maximum tube length is 8 inches (200 mm). This set is included with the fraction collector. Using standard 13 x 100 mm test tubes (Corning 99445-13) the maximum fraction size is 10 mL.
124854 Rack set that holds up to 116 10 to 16 mm diameter tubes. The maximum tube length is 8 inches (200 mm). Using standard 16 x 150 mm test tubes (Corning 99445-16XX) the maximum fraction size is 23 mL.
124855 Rack set that holds up to 116 17 or 18 mm diameter tubes or mini-vials. Maximum tube length is 8 inches (200 mm). Using standard 18 x 150 mm test tubes (Corning 9820-18) the maximum fraction size is 27 mL.
124856 Rack set that holds up to 42 28 mm diameter scintillation vials. The maximum tube length is 7 inches (175 mm). Using standard 28 mm scintillation vials the maximum fraction size is 20 mL.
124858 Dust cover. Prevents contamination of your fractions by airborne dust and particulate matter. The dust cover can be installed and removed without disturbing any electrical or fluid connection to the fraction collector.
124848 2-Way shutoff valve. This is primarily for use with radioactive or especially toxic materials to prevent the fraction collector from becoming contaminated. It stops the flow to the drop former when the tubes are moving and at the end of the run. This minimizes the chance that drops will fall between tubes.
This valve is also useful for gravity-flow columns since it can keep the column from running dry.
124849 3-Way diverter valve. This valve diverts the flow to a waste container when the tubes are moving, at the end of a run, or when directed by the CF-2 Fraction Collector's peak separator. We very strongly recommend the use of this valve when using the peak separator features of the fraction collector. We feel this so strongly that we would like to say it is required, but the marketing people do not like to see the word required.
124874 Mast package. This package attaches two 50 cm long masts (included with package) to the rear of the fraction collector. These masts may be used to support small instruments or columns, saving bench space.
The mast package is required to support the 4 column adapter.
124876 4-column adapter. The 4-column adapter is used to simultaneously collect fractions from up to 4 columns. It collects up to 29 fractions in 10 to 16 mm diameter tubes from each column. The 124874 mast package must also be obtained in order to use the 4 column adapter.
124865 Signal cable. This cable connects the CF-2 Fraction Collector to your detector. If you are not using the peak detector to separate peak from non-peak material you do not need this cable.
142615 Tube change cable. This cable connects the CF-2 Fraction Collector to a model 280 UV monitor. When connected by this cable, a small "tick" mark will be placed on the recorder trace for each tube change. This allows you to more easily determine which peak is in which tube.
